Salvador Perez played a pivotal role in the Kansas City Royals’ 6-4 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in the first game of a doubleheader. Perez contributed two runs with a home run and a single, while Garrett Hampson and Hunter Renfroe also helped with two RBIs and hits, respectively. On the Cardinals’ side, Nolan Arenado, Alec Burleson, and Paul Goldschmidt each hit a homer.

Pitcher Alec Marsh secured the win for the Royals after giving up three runs in six innings. Despite allowing a home run and a single in the ninth, James McArthur earned his 16th save. Andre Pallante took the loss for the Cardinals, pitching 6 1/3 innings with four runs allowed.

Perez’s 424-foot homer in the sixth inning gave the Royals the lead. The team added two more runs in the eighth, extending their lead. In the fifth inning, Kansas City managed to tie the game with three runs.

In further team updates, the Royals recalled Walter Pennington, while the Cardinals called up Gordon Graceffo as the 27th men for the doubleheader.
