In the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday, the Chicago White Sox finally secured a 3-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins. Luis Robert Jr. powered the White Sox with a two-run homer, while Erick Fedde pitched five scoreless innings, and the bullpen held on for the win, snapping a nine-game losing streak to their AL Central rivals this season.
The Twins’ Matt Wallner hit a home run, and All-Star Carlos Correa extended his hitting streak to 11 games, going 3 for 4. Bailey Ober started strong for the Twins, facing the minimum through four innings, but the White Sox managed to score in the fifth inning with Gavin Sheets’ double and a sacrifice fly by Paul DeJong. Andrew Vaughn and Luis Robert added runs in the sixth inning to secure the win.
Michael Kopech closed the game for the White Sox by striking out the side in the ninth inning for his ninth save. Ober pitched well for the Twins, but the offense couldn’t provide enough support to extend their winning streak.
In terms of injuries, Twins’ RHP Brock Stewart made a rehab appearance with Triple-A St. Paul, and White Sox brought in LHP Jake Eder as their 27th player for the doubleheader.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Pablo López (Twins) will face Drew Thorpe (White Sox). The game was rescheduled due to rain, and Joe Ryan (Twins) will start Friday’s game against San Francisco while the White Sox will begin a series with Pittsburgh.
Overall, the White Sox put an end to their losing streak against the Twins, thanks to strong pitching and timely hitting in the first game of the doubleheader. Both teams look to regroup and perform in their upcoming matchups.
