Miami Dolphins acquire former Ravens quarterback Tyler Huntley amid Tua Tagovailoa’s absence due to concussion

The Miami Dolphins are making a move to address the absence of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa due to a concussion. Tyler Huntley, who was on the Ravens’ practice squad, is poised to join the Dolphins as a backup while Tagovailoa remains in the league’s concussion protocol. Huntley will provide depth behind the current No. 2 quarterback, Skylar Thompson.

Following Tagovailoa’s injury during a game against the Buffalo Bills last Thursday, the Dolphins are awaiting more information before deciding whether Tagovailoa will be placed on injured reserve. Coach Mike McDaniel emphasized that medical experts will guide this decision in consultation with Tagovailoa and General Manager Chris Grier.

Huntley, known as “Snoop,” was previously with the Browns before returning to the Ravens. The Dolphins considered several veteran quarterbacks before selecting Huntley to support Thompson. Tagovailoa’s injury occurred during a play against the Bills when he collided with a defensive back.

The Dolphins remain cautious about Tagovailoa’s future given his history of concussions dating back to college. McDaniel stressed that Tagovailoa will have a significant role in determining his career path. Thompson is expected to start in their upcoming game against Seattle, and Huntley’s addition brings more experience to the quarterback roster.

Huntley, who went undrafted in 2020, received recognition for his performance with the Ravens, stepping in for the injured Lamar Jackson. Despite Thompson’s struggles in the previous game, McDaniel expressed confidence in his growth and ability to lead the team to victory. The Dolphins are focused on supporting their quarterbacks during Tagovailoa’s absence.
