A Texas Courtroom Turns Awkward

In Jefferson County, Texas, the halls of justice weren’t laughing. On what should’ve been a serious day in court, Sammy Morris walked into a felony hearing wearing a shirt that said: “World’s Best Farter.”

Underneath, in smaller text, it read: “I mean father.”

The moment didn’t go unnoticed. Judge Raquel West, known for her no-nonsense style, locked eyes on the shirt and wasted no time calling Morris out in front of the entire courtroom.

“That’s What You Wore To Felony Court?”

As footage from the court’s official YouTube feed showed, Judge West looked visibly irritated.

“What made you think that was a good shirt to wear to court this morning?” she asked with a sharp tone.

Morris mumbled that it was the only clean shirt he could find. But that explanation didn’t fly.

Judge Scolds Man for Clothing Choice

“That was the only shirt you had to wear in your closet?” she snapped back.

Morris tried to play it off, saying the shirt really said “father.”

But West didn’t buy it. “No, it says … I can read it. I see what it says at the bottom,” she replied flatly.

The judge sighed and reminded him, “You’re in felony court. You need to dress appropriately. And that’s not appropriate.”

Courtroom Dress Codes Are No Joke

According to Texas court rules, participants in court proceedings must wear business attire. That means collared shirts, ties, suits—or at least something that doesn’t joke about bodily functions.

Morris clearly missed the memo. The judge’s stern reaction sent a clear message: show respect for the court—or pay the price.

The shirt wasn’t Morris’s only problem that day. Judge West quickly noticed that he didn’t have a lawyer with him.

“You need to get someone hired,” she told him, “or you need to actually talk to three lawyers.”

Morris claimed he had reached out to three attorneys before the court date, but none had responded in time.

“You can’t actually hire someone unless you really try,” the judge warned.

Judge Issues an Ultimatum

Judge West gave Morris a 30-day reset on his case. But she didn’t sugarcoat the consequences if he returned unprepared.

“If you have to call 20 [lawyers] to get that done, then call 20,” she said. “If you come back without one, your bond will be revoked.”

That means jail time.

Public Reactions Pour In

Online commenters were torn between laughter and disbelief.

“Only in Texas do you get roasted in court for fart jokes,” one user posted on social media.

Others praised Judge West for maintaining courtroom standards. “She’s not wrong. Felony court isn’t open mic night,” one viewer wrote.

Some even questioned Morris’s understanding of the situation. “You’re fighting a felony and that’s what you wear? Wild.”

Still No Word On His Charges

Authorities haven’t released what felony Morris faces. That mystery only added to the buzz.

Was it theft? Assault? Fraud? No one knows—but whatever it was, his fashion faux pas became the bigger headline.

Court Isn’t Casual

Legal experts noted that courtrooms expect decorum. Judge West’s reaction reflects a broader expectation: respect the setting or risk setting yourself back.

“If a defendant shows up looking like a joke, it’s hard for anyone to take their case seriously,” said one Texas defense attorney.

Morris may have thought it was harmless. But courts don’t gamble with image, especially in felony cases.

The Countdown Begins

Now, Morris has one month to find legal counsel—and a clean, decent shirt.

Whether he’ll return with both remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: next time, “World’s Best Farter” better stay in the laundry bin.
