A U.S. attorney is cracking down on a social media influencer who called for Elon Musk’s assassination while boasting about evading taxes for eight years. The video, posted by Sarah C. Roberts on TikTok, sparked outrage and a federal investigation after being reshared on X.
The viral video that triggered an investigation
In the now-deleted clip, Roberts made a throat-slashing gesture while saying, “We need to X him … and by X, I mean formerly known as assassination.” She then taunted authorities, claiming, “I haven’t filed my taxes in eight years, and no one’s come for me.”
Musk, who now serves as a White House senior advisor overseeing the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), personally alerted U.S. Attorney Ed Martin. Martin responded, “Duly noted … We’ll put you in the system. Talk soon, Ma’am.”
Crackdown on anti-Musk activism
Roberts’ video comes amid growing protests against Musk’s role in government reform. Left-leaning groups, including Indivisible and MoveOn, have organized demonstrations at Tesla dealerships and Republican town halls, accusing Musk of wielding unchecked power. Signs at protests have branded him a “Nazi” and condemned Tesla cars as “Swasticars.”
A legal attack dog for Musk and DOGE
Martin, a Trump-appointed U.S. attorney with a history of dismissing January 6 prosecutions, has pledged full legal support for Musk’s government overhaul. He vowed to prosecute anyone who “impedes [Musk’s] work or threatens [his] people,” calling the DOJ’s previous handling of left-wing protests “weak.”
Musk publicly thanked Martin, acknowledging receipt of his statement via X. Meanwhile, DOGE claims to have already saved $65 billion in taxpayer money by slashing federal programs, foreign aid, and thousands of government jobs.
As Musk’s influence in Washington grows, his critics are pushing back—but with federal prosecutors on his side, those standing in his way may soon find themselves in legal trouble.
