President Donald Trump escalated his feud with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday, slamming him for saying that an end to Ukraine’s three-year war with Russia was “very, very far away.”
Trump Calls Zelensky’s Statement ‘The Worst’
Furious over Zelensky’s pessimistic remarks, Trump took to Truth Social to lash out:
“This is the worst statement that could have been made by Zelenskyy, and America will not put up with it for much longer!”
Trump doubled down, claiming that Zelensky is stalling peace talks as long as he has the backing of the U.S. and Europe.
“This guy doesn’t want there to be peace as long as he has America’s backing,” Trump wrote. “Europe, in the meeting they had with Zelenskyy, stated flatly that they cannot do the job without the U.S. – Probably not a great statement to have been made in terms of a show of strength against Russia. What are they thinking?”
Oval Office Showdown Fuels Tensions
The public war of words follows Friday’s explosive Oval Office meeting, where Trump and Vice President JD Vance confronted Zelensky about Ukraine’s reliance on U.S. support.
During the tense exchange, Trump pressured Zelensky to negotiate peace with Russia and made his stance clear:
“You’re either going to make a deal or we’re out, and if we’re out, you’ll fight it out,” Trump warned. “I don’t think it’s going to be pretty.”
Ukraine’s Future Now Uncertain
Zelensky’s downbeat outlook on peace talks came just two days after the U.S.-Ukraine alliance was thrown into turmoil by his fiery Oval Office clash with Trump and Vance.
With American support hanging by a thread, tensions are at an all-time high—leaving Ukraine’s war effort in serious jeopardy.
