Don Johnson Confesses: ‘I Smoked Weed at the White House’

  • During appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Don Johnson admitted he smoked weed during a visit to the White House.
  • He shared a fun story about golfing and gambling with President George H.W. Bush.
  • He revealed Donald Trump broke a sponsorship deal in the 1980s.

Don Johnson, best known for his role in Miami Vice, shared a surprising story on Jimmy Kimmel Live! He said he once smoked weed at the White House. The story came up after Kimmel asked about Johnson’s famous friends and wild past. Johnson didn’t hold back. He admitted he had visited the White House many times over the years and even had some wild experiences there. The audience laughed and cheered as he spilled the details with a grin.

An Old Photo of Jimmy Carter and Rock Stars Led to a Confession

Kimmel brought out an old black-and-white photo from 1975. The picture showed Johnson with President Jimmy Carter and two Allman Brothers band members, Chuck Leavell and Dickey Betts. Betts looked like he was smoking something. When Kimmel asked about the photo, Johnson laughed and said he didn’t remember it well. Then he added, “We were all stoned.” He quickly backtracked to make sure people didn’t think Carter was involved. “Well, I don’t know about him,” he said. “I don’t want to cast any aspersions on the former president. God rest his soul.”

Johnson Helped Organize a Concert for Carter’s Campaign

Johnson explained how he ended up at the White House. He had helped the Allman Brothers set up a concert to support Jimmy Carter’s first presidential campaign. That concert earned him an invite to the White House. It also started a pattern. Johnson said he has visited the White House during every administration since Carter. That surprised Kimmel, who joked that nobody ever has fun at the White House. Then he remembered a story about Willie Nelson smoking weed there. So he asked, “Is that the kind of fun you had?”

Kimmel Asked If He Smoked at the White House and Got a Clear Answer

Johnson paused for a moment before answering. He looked around, smiled, and threw up his hands. “I don’t know how to answer this,” he said. “Well, yes, I guess I did.” The crowd applauded loudly. Johnson didn’t share exactly when or where he lit up, but he made it clear that it happened. That moment revealed just how relaxed some White House visits can be — at least when Johnson is involved.

Don Johnson Also Bonded with President George H.W. Bush Over Golf

Johnson didn’t just party with Democrats. He also had good times with Republican presidents. He talked about a fun moment with President George H.W. Bush. They played golf together at Camp David. Bush liked to place bets on their golf games. “I took his money,” Johnson said with a smile. He also said Bush talked a lot of trash during the game. Johnson didn’t back down. “He ran into a buzzsaw,” he added. “So am I.” The two men clearly shared a competitive streak and a love for the game.

Bush Didn’t Smoke Weed But Loved to Compete and Talk Trash

Johnson made one thing clear. President Bush never smoked marijuana. “He didn’t touch the stuff,” Johnson said. But Bush didn’t mind a little gambling. And he definitely liked to talk smack on the golf course. Johnson said they had a great time and built a fun, respectful relationship. It was a very different kind of White House memory than the one involving Jimmy Carter and weed.

Johnson Said Trump Once Made a Deal and Didn’t Keep His Word

Not every presidential encounter ended well. Johnson told a different kind of story about Donald Trump. Back in the 1980s, Trump approached him with a business deal. Trump wanted to sponsor one of Johnson’s racing boats. The deal required Johnson to place the name of Trump’s hotel, “Trump Castle,” on the boat. Johnson said he took the money and agreed to the terms. But Trump later demanded that his name be printed larger. Then he failed to pay Johnson the full amount. “He stiffed me on the money,” Johnson said. That left a bad taste and ended their working relationship.

Don Johnson’s Presidential Adventures Span Decades and Parties

Johnson has a long history with the White House. He’s visited during both Democratic and Republican administrations. He has made friends with presidents, played golf with them, and even smoked weed during one visit. His stories give a rare peek into the lighter side of life at the top of American politics. Don Johnson doesn’t play by the rules — not even at the White House. And that’s exactly what makes his stories so unforgettable.
