Deadly winter: Tornado kills 2 as ‘parade of storms’ threatens

Severe storms, including a possible tornado, swept through eastern Tennessee on Thursday night, killing two people and injuring three others.

Officials confirmed Friday morning that a mother and daughter from the same household died as the storm struck the Deer Lodge and Sunbright areas in Morgan County.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol dispatched troopers to assist residents and assess the damage, while the Morgan County School District announced school closures due to “significant damage from tornadoes.”

New Jersey and New York brace for multiple winter storms

Meanwhile, the Northeast is preparing for a relentless “parade of storms,” with multiple rounds of ice, snow, and freezing rain expected over the next week. A winter storm is set to hit New Jersey Wednesday night into Thursday, bringing hazardous conditions.

Weekend ice storm could worsen travel

A second storm, moving in from the Ohio Valley, is forecast to impact New Jersey late Saturday into early Sunday. Similar to the midweek system, this storm could begin with snow before shifting to sleet, freezing rain, and eventually plain rain as temperatures fluctuate.

Major snowstorm possible next week

Forecasters are closely monitoring another potential winter storm early next week, which could bring heavy snowfall to the northeastern U.S., including New Jersey. Some models suggest over six inches of snow, but meteorologists warn that it is too early to predict totals with certainty.

The National Weather Service acknowledges that the system “could bring impactful wintry weather” but advises caution, as details remain uncertain. With back-to-back storms on the horizon, residents should stay alert for changing forecasts and potential disruptions.
