A cat survives a fall in a shocking and heartbreaking incident at Bryce Canyon National Park. A 12-year-old tabby named Mirage astonishingly lived through a nearly 400-foot plunge that tragically claimed the lives of two hikers.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Matthew Nannen, 45, and Bailee Crane, 58, died after going over a railing at Inspiration Point on Tuesday. Mirage was discovered nearby, inside a black carrier that somehow remained intact.

Cat Survives Fall Despite Deadly Drop

Mirage’s survival has left animal rescue workers amazed. According to Best Friends Animal Society, the senior cat was found at the scene in surprisingly stable condition.

Although the deadly drop killed the hikers instantly, Mirage was alert and responsive when rescuers arrived. She became the sole survivor of the terrifying fall.

Cat Survives Fall And Begins Road To Recovery

Initially, Mirage was taken to Pawz Dogs boarding facility in Panguitch. Soon after, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office contacted Best Friends Animal Society, which then transported the resilient feline nearly 70 miles to their sanctuary in Kanab.

Staff there said that Mirage was understandably shaken and sore but still friendly. She quickly began eating and drinking on her own, showing incredible resilience.

Medical Tests Show Promising Signs

Though cat survives fall, experts want to ensure Mirage has no hidden injuries. Best Friends Animal Society confirmed that her bloodwork came back normal. However, X-rays are still pending to check for broken ribs or internal trauma.

So far, early signs point to a miraculous recovery for the tough tabby.

The tragic loss of Nannen and Crane has deeply saddened the local community. However, Mirage’s survival offers a small light amid the heartbreak. Animal lovers have already begun offering support and donations to help with her care.
