Neil Young Hits Musk with a New Song Slamming Tesla and Politics

  • Neil Young’s new song targets Elon Musk, criticizing his electric vehicles and role in the Trump administration. Many of Neil Young’s hits often carry strong political messages.
  • Young urges American car companies to build cleaner, safer cars to compete with China, reminiscent of themes found in Neil Young hits.
  • Young expresses concern about Trump’s influence, fearing retaliation for speaking out against him, a sentiment reflected in some of his greatest hits.

Neil Young Criticizes Elon Musk in New Song

Neil Young has launched a new song targeting Elon Musk, using his music to express frustration with the Tesla owner. He revealed the song at a charity concert in Los Angeles. Young’s lyrics aim directly at Musk and his electric vehicles. In front of an audience at the Greek Theater, he sang, “If you’re a fascist, get a Tesla / It’s electric, it doesn’t matter.” The crowd heard these words during the Light Up the Blues benefit concert. Young didn’t stop there. He continued with the lines, “If you’re a Democrat, taste your freedom / Get whatever you want, taste your freedom.” As with many Neil Young hits, the song carries a powerful political message.

A Strong Message About Car Companies

Young’s song, titled “Let’s Roll Again,” also takes aim at American car companies. He encourages them to compete with China in the electric vehicle market. Young calls on Ford, GM, and Chrysler to step up their game. He wants them to produce cleaner and safer cars. Young sang, “Come on Ford, come on GM / Come on Chrysler, let’s roll again.” He also demanded, “Build something special that people need / Build us a safe way for us to meet / Build us something that won’t kill our kids / Runs real clean.” He added a line criticizing China’s progress, saying, “China’s way ahead, they’re making clean cars.” The themes in “Let’s Roll Again” resonate with the issues highlighted in many Neil Young’s hits.

Musk’s Role in the Trump Administration

Neil Young’s new song comes at a time when many liberals protest Musk’s role in the government. Musk worked as a senior advisor to President Donald Trump. Some people are angry about his involvement with the Trump administration. They’ve even protested by damaging Teslas at dealerships. The anger surrounding Musk’s government position has sparked protests throughout the country. His role as a “special government employee” is set to end in May, as such employees are limited to 130 days of service each year. The involvement of Musk contrasts sharply with the messages found in Neil Young hits, highlighting discontent with figures of power.

Young’s History of Opposition to Trump

Neil Young has a long history of opposing Donald Trump. In 2020, he sued Trump for using his song “Rockin’ in the Free World” during his re-election campaign. Young’s legal action didn’t last long, though. He dropped the lawsuit later that year. His disdain for Trump didn’t end there. Young often speaks out against the former president and his policies. Many of Neil Young’s hits have expressed resistance against political figures.

Young Fears Trump’s Influence

Neil Young recently expressed concern about Trump’s power over his life. He fears that speaking out against Trump while in Europe might keep him from re-entering the U.S. Young said, “When I go to play music in Europe, if I talk about Donald J. Trump, I may be one of those returning to America who is barred or put in jail to sleep on a cement floor with an aluminum blanket.” He worries that if this happens, he won’t be able to continue his U.S. tour. This is yet another example of how Young uses his platform to voice his opinions and challenge the figures he disagrees with, such as Musk and Trump, echoing the rebellious spirit found in Neil Young’s hits.
