PULLMAN, Wash. — Carlos Stewart Jr. tallied 22 points as Santa Clara established a new program record with 23 three-pointers, defeating Washington State 109-79 on Saturday evening.
Johnny O’Neil was particularly effective from beyond the arc for the Broncos, successfully sinking 5 of his 6 attempts from three-point range, finishing with a total of 17 points. Other key contributors included Elijah Mahi with 19 points and Tyeree Bryan who added 12. Both Stewart, Mahi, and Bryan each connected on four three-pointers during the game. Furthermore, Jake Ensminger contributed two three-pointers and finished with a total of eight points.
The Santa Clara team achieved an impressive shooting percentage of 61% (23 out of 38) from the three-point line, while their overall shooting rate stood at 54% (39 of 72).
For the Cougars, who stand at a 16-13 record (6-10), Nate Calmese was a standout performer, scoring 20 points while also contributing four assists and two steals. Ethan Price supported the effort with 19 points along with two steals and two blocks, while Dane Erikstrup rounded out the scoring with 15 points.
O’Neil made a significant impact in the first half, scoring all 17 of his points, which helped the Broncos secure a commanding lead of 61-33 by halftime.
Looking ahead, Santa Clara will face Gonzaga at home on Tuesday, while Washington State will host San Diego on Thursday.
