BRADENTON, Fla. — The Pittsburgh Pirates have reached an agreement with left-handed pitcher Andrew Heaney on a one-year deal worth $5.25 million, which was concluded on Saturday.
Heaney, now 33 years old, has had a storied career spanning 11 seasons, accumulating a record of 51 wins and 62 losses alongside a career ERA of 4.45. Most notably, he spent a significant portion of his career with the Los Angeles Angels before moving to the Texas Rangers for the last two seasons. In a standout performance during the 2023 season, Heaney achieved a career-best of 10 victories and played an integral role in the Rangers capturing their first-ever World Series title. His 2024 performance saw him compiling a record of 5 wins and 14 losses with a 4.28 ERA across 32 games.
To accommodate Heaney on the roster, the Pirates have designated right-handed pitcher Brett de Geus for assignment. Additionally, the team has released right-hander Yerry Rodriguez from a minor league contract.
