Stillwater, Oklahoma – In a dominant display on Saturday, Stailee Heard contributed significantly with 26 points as the No. 24 Oklahoma State Cowgirls triumphed over Colorado, concluding the game with a score of 82-65.
The Cowgirls showcased their strength particularly in the second quarter, outscoring their opponents 26-13. Alongside Heard, Micah Gray and Anna Gret Asi both chipped in with 14 points each, helping lead Oklahoma State to enhance their record to 22-5 overall and 12-4 in the Big 12 Conference.
For Colorado, Ayianna Johnson was a standout, securing 20 points in the game. However, the Buffaloes, who fell to 17-10 overall and 8-8 in their conference play, have struggled recently, losing four of their last five matchups. Jade Masogayo also contributed 14 points for Colorado.
The game began in a tight fashion, with a score of just 20-19 after the first quarter. Colorado initially managed to tie the game on two occasions early in the second quarter, but Oklahoma State soon began to pull away. The Cowgirls closed the quarter on a 6-0 run and capitalized on the Buffaloes’ turnovers, finishing the half with a commanding lead of 46-32. Oklahoma State’s shooting performance during this stretch was impressive—a 53% success rate, including making 4 of 9 attempts from beyond the arc and 10 of 12 from the free-throw line.
Despite Colorado’s efforts, which included narrowing the gap to eight points with five minutes remaining in the third quarter, Oklahoma State reasserted control, finishing the third with a comfortable 67-52 lead. The Cowgirls maintained their lead, reaching a maximum advantage of 19 points in the final minutes of the game.
Turnovers proved costly for Colorado, as they committed 21 which resulted in 27 points for Oklahoma State. In contrast, the Cowgirls had significantly fewer turnovers, only 11, and also had a better free-throw percentage, going 21 of 28 compared to Colorado’s 10 of 12.
Looking ahead, Colorado will return to their home court to face Arizona State on Wednesday, while Cincinnati will make a visit to take on Oklahoma State.
