A bridge too far? Republican voters erupt over Musk’s firings in town hall

Rep. Rich McCormick faced intense criticism during a town hall in Georgia, as furious constituents lashed out over drastic government job cuts led by the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Attendees slammed the administration’s “chainsaw approach” to budget slashing, specifically calling out billionaire Elon Musk, who has been spearheading efforts to reduce federal spending. Some shouted, “Elon Musk is deciding,” as McCormick attempted to defend the cuts.

CDC layoffs spark outrage

Many were particularly enraged over recent job losses at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, where nearly 1,300 probationary employees were terminated. One attendee demanded to know, “Why is the supposedly conservative party taking such a radical and extremist approach to this?”

Calls to stand up to Trump

The crowd’s anger wasn’t just directed at budget cuts—some attendees condemned Trump’s increasing power. A question about how McCormick planned to “rein in the megalomaniac in the White House” was met with loud cheers and a standing ovation.

“Shame!” chants and growing discontent

The town hall descended into chaos at times, with shouts of “We’re pissed!” and chants of “Shame!” drowning out McCormick’s attempts to explain. Some constituents accused him of failing to stand up for them, with one stating, “You’ve done a disservice.”

With tensions boiling over, McCormick’s attempt to defend Trump’s policies only seemed to deepen the divide, leaving many wondering if Republican lawmakers will face growing resistance over DOGE’s aggressive cuts.
