In a recent showdown, Justin Neely delivered a standout performance by scoring 29 points, helping Albany secure a 79-68 victory over Maine on Thursday night.
Neely not only excelled offensively but also contributed significantly on the boards with 11 rebounds and made three steals, playing a crucial role for the Great Danes who improved their record to 14-13 overall and 6-6 within the America East Conference. Amar’e Marshall supported the effort with 18 points, connecting on 5 of 13 attempts from the field, including 2 of 4 from beyond the arc, and he was perfect from the free-throw line at 6 for 6. He also pulled down six rebounds. Byron Joshua chipped in with 12 points, shooting 3 of 11 from the floor and again maintaining an unblemished record from the charity stripe, going 6 for 6, though he struggled from three-point range, missing all four attempts.
On the opposing side, AJ Lopez led the Black Bears with 17 points and added two steals to his efforts. Maine also saw contributions from Christopher Mantis who scored 13 points, while Quion Burns rounded out the scoring with 10 points and six rebounds, but those totals weren’t enough to fend off Albany’s strong performance.
Both teams are scheduled to hit the court again on Saturday, with Albany set to host New Hampshire and Maine traveling to face Binghamton.
