DOHA, Qatar — Andy Murray is expected to continue his role as Novak Djokovic’s coach at least until the French Open. On Tuesday, the 24-time Grand Slam champion shared with the ATP Tour’s media that Murray has committed to remain in this coaching position.
Murray and Djokovic came together for this collaboration before the Australian Open, which many viewed as an unexpected combination. Following Murray’s retirement from professional play last year, Djokovic reached out to him with an offer to coach.
The 37-year-old Serbian player progressed to the semifinals at the Australian Open but had to withdraw from his match against Alexander Zverev due to a hamstring injury. “I expressed my desire to continue the collaboration with him, so I am really glad he did accept,” Djokovic remarked, while preparing to face Matteo Berrettini in the opening round of the Qatar Open later that day.
Djokovic mentioned that while their partnership does not have a set expiration date, they have tentatively agreed to work together in the United States and during various clay-court tournaments. “We will see how it goes after that,” he added, emphasizing the fluidity of their future plans.
