TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — On Monday night, Sarah Ashlee Barker was the standout player for the 18th-ranked Alabama, contributing significantly with 18 points as the team dominated Texas A&M with a score of 88-49.
Barker showcased her shooting ability by making 6 of 9 attempts, which included two successful 3-pointers and a perfect four-for-four from the free-throw line, leading her team to its fourth consecutive victory, bringing their overall record to 21-5 and 8-4 in the Southeastern Conference.
Zaay Green also had a noteworthy performance, finishing with 16 points, six rebounds, and six assists. She made four of the team’s 12 3-pointers during the game. Aaliyah Nye contributed 15 points, including three 3-pointers, while Essence Cody scored 10 points and Karly Weathers pulled down 10 rebounds.
For Texas A&M, Jada Malone was the leading scorer off the bench with 17 points and six rebounds. The Aggies, now with a record of 10-14 and 3-9 in the conference, are on a six-game losing streak. Janae Kent added 14 points to the tally, and Sahara Jones chipped in with 11 points along with six rebounds.
The game started strongly for Alabama, which quickly established a considerable lead. After the first quarter, Alabama was up 27-8 thanks to a remarkable 17-0 run. Texas A&M struggled with shooting, making only 4 of 13 attempts, including failing to land any of their five 3-point shots during that stretch.
By halftime, Alabama had built a commanding 46-16 lead, with Barker scoring nine points and Nye adding 13 points. The duo shot an impressive 10 of 12 collectively, including five of six from long range. Jones was responsible for half of Texas A&M’s first-half points.
In the third quarter, Green continued to shine by hitting three 3-pointers and scoring 13 points, which allowed Alabama to extend its lead to 73-33, a 10-point increase from halftime.
Just shy of achieving its fourth victory against an SEC opponent by more than 40 points, Alabama set the program record with an 87-38 victory over South Carolina in February 1997.
Looking ahead, Alabama is scheduled to play against No. 15 Tennessee on Thursday, while Texas A&M will be hosting Florida on the same day.
