Venezia’s struggle continued on Monday as they extended their winless streak to eight matches following a 2-0 defeat to Genoa in Serie A.
The last time Venezia enjoyed a victory was on December 22 against Cagliari. Currently, they sit in the 19th position on the league table, only two points ahead of the bottom team, Monza, and four points behind Parma.
In the opening half, Venezia had promising chances with Nicolussi Caviglia and Kike Perez testing the opposition, but it was Genoa who began to take control in the second half. Venezia’s goalkeeper Ionut Radu was particularly impressive, making crucial saves to thwart attempts from Aaron Martin and Andrea Pinamonti.
However, with just eight minutes left on the clock, Pinamonti managed to score with a stunning curling shot, breaking the deadlock and putting Genoa ahead. Soon after, Maxwell Cornet, the striker on loan from West Ham, made sure of the win by cutting in from the right and finding the net just four minutes later.
This victory allowed Genoa to rise to 11th place in the league standings.
