FRESNO, Calif. — In a closely contested matchup on Saturday night, Jaden Henley played a crucial role for UNLV, contributing 13 points, including a decisive layup that put the Rebels ahead with just 41 seconds remaining, ultimately leading to a 52-51 victory over Fresno State.

Henley also grabbed nine rebounds for the Rebels, who improved their record to 14-12 and 8-7 in the Mountain West Conference. Teammate Jailen Bedford matched Henley’s scoring output with 13 points as well, going 5 for 15 from the field and hitting three of his nine attempts from three-point range, alongside pulling down six rebounds. Julian Rishwain chipped in with eight points, although he struggled with his shooting, finishing 3 for 12, including a mere 1 for 7 from beyond the arc.

UNLV appeared to take control of the game after Bedford connected on two three-pointers in quick succession, pushing the Rebels’ lead to 11 points with 8:02 left on the clock. However, UNLV then experienced a rough patch, missing their next seven shots and committing seven turnovers, allowing Fresno State to orchestrate a comeback and score 12 unanswered points. A layup by Zaon Collins gave the Bulldogs a 51-50 advantage—marking their first lead of the game—with just over a minute left.

Henley was fouled while making the go-ahead layup, though he failed to convert the subsequent free throw. In a pivotal moment, Pape N’Diaye blocked a shot from Fresno, ensuring that UNLV maintained their one-point edge with only 13 seconds remaining. Jalen Weaver’s attempt at a game-winning three-pointer as time expired missed the mark, sealing the defeat for Fresno State.

Elijah Price was the standout performer for Fresno State, finishing with 15 points, 12 rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Brian Amuneke added nine points, while Alex Crawford also contributed eight points and recorded three blocks. This loss marked the Bulldogs’ eighth consecutive defeat of the season.

During the first half, Henley managed to score seven points, contributing to UNLV’s 26-18 lead at halftime. While the Rebels were outscored by seven points in the second half, they managed to cling to their slim lead, with Bedford leading the scoring in the latter half with 11 points.

Looking ahead, UNLV is set to host Colorado State next Saturday, while Fresno State will be on the road against San Diego State this Tuesday.
