
In Munich, a tragic incident has led to the deaths of a mother and her 2-year-old daughter, two days following a car-ramming event during a labor union demonstration. Police confirmed the fatalities on Saturday, stating that the injuries sustained by both were severe.
The suspect, a 24-year-old man from Afghanistan who entered Germany seeking asylum, was apprehended shortly after the incident, which took place on Thursday. According to prosecutors, preliminary investigations indicate that the man may have acted with an Islamic extremist intent, although there is currently no proof linking him to any organized radical group.
In total, the violent event affected 39 individuals, with reports suggesting that two sustained life-threatening injuries. The Bavarian state criminal police have confirmed the deaths of the young girl and her mother, aged 37 and a resident of Munich, based on information from the German news agency dpa.
This attack marks the fifth incident within a string of violent encounters involving immigrants over the past nine months, contributing to an increasing focus on migration issues ahead of Germany’s elections set for February 23.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited the site of the attack on Saturday, expressing his condolences by placing a white rose at a makeshift memorial dedicated to the victims.
