MILWAUKEE – Khris Middleton expressed his gratitude toward Milwaukee, reflecting on how the city played a pivotal role in his development both as a person and a player, a week after the Bucks finalized a trade sending the three-time All-Star to the Washington Wizards.

In a heartfelt message posted on social media, Middleton said, “From the moment I arrived in this city, you welcomed me with open arms. Together, we navigated the rebuilding phase, witnessed the rise of a championship team, and shared the incredible journey that led us to the 2021 NBA Championship. That magical experience—highlighted by clutch shots, thrilling comebacks, and the joy of bringing the Larry O’Brien Trophy back to Milwaukee after a 50-year wait—will always be a cherished memory.”

Middleton had been a vital part of the Bucks since the start of the 2013-14 season, but was traded to Washington at last week’s trade deadline. He moved along with a 2024 first-round draft pick, AJ Johnson, in exchange for Kyle Kuzma, while both teams involved in the trade received additional draft assets as part of the deal.

Bucks general manager Jon Horst commented on the difficult decision to trade Middleton, noting that it was one of the most challenging transactions he has ever faced due to its impact on the team’s culture and connection to the community.

In his emotional farewell, Middleton expressed appreciation for the organization, stating, “To the Bucks organization: Thank you for believing in me, nurturing my growth, and providing me the chance to evolve from a trade commodity into an All-Star and champion.”

At 33 years of age, Middleton holds multiple franchise records, including being the all-time leader in 3-pointers made with 1,382. He is also ranked second in games played (735) and minutes (23,039), and stands third in total points (12,586) and assists (2,990). However, his recent seasons have been hindered by injuries, limiting him to just 33 games during the 2022-23 season and 55 in the 2023-24 campaign. He made his debut for the 2024-25 season on December 6 after undergoing offseason surgeries on both ankles.

Addressing the Milwaukee community, Middleton shared, “This city has truly become my home. The relationships I’ve built, the community projects we’ve collaborated on, and the myriad of memories created, both on the court and off, will always remain close to my heart. As I embark on this new chapter, I am eager for the new opportunities that lie ahead. Yet, Milwaukee will forever hold a unique place in my heart. This isn’t a farewell; it’s a heartfelt thank you.”
