In Warsaw, Poland, a significant memorandum was signed on Thursday aimed at bolstering the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) across various sectors, including energy and cybersecurity. This collaboration between Google and the Polish government comes at a time when Poland is working to reduce its reliance on Russian energy resources while facing increased cyber threats and acts of sabotage that are suspected to be linked to Russia.
Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google and its parent company Alphabet, met with Prime Minister Donald Tusk to discuss measures to enhance Google’s operations in Poland, which initially began in 2014. During the meeting, Pichai emphasized that Poland serves as Google’s largest engineering center, employing over 2,000 individuals.
In addition to incorporating AI into critical sectors, Google is committing $5 million over the next five years to enhance training initiatives aimed at improving digital skills among the youth in Poland. According to Pichai, the program is expected to benefit around 1 million young Poles.
Prime Minister Tusk highlighted that these strategic plans would not only reinforce Poland’s security but also aid in the country’s economic growth. He noted that earlier in the week, it was announced that Google alongside Microsoft, plans to invest a substantial amount—approximately 650 billion zlotys (equivalent to $160 billion)—in Poland by the year 2025.
Furthermore, Tusk has encouraged Google to play an active role in the country’s deregulation efforts, which seek to simplify processes and reduce bureaucratic hurdles, thereby allowing businesses to expand more freely in Poland.
