LAFAYETTE, La. — In an impressive display of teamwork, Troy secured a decisive 74-56 victory over Louisiana on Wednesday night, largely thanks to the stellar performances of Thomas Dowd and Myles Rigsby, who each notched 19 points.
Dowd was a force on the boards, pulling down 12 rebounds to aid the Trojans, who now hold a record of 16-9 overall and 9-4 in the Sun Belt Conference. Rigsby’s shooting was particularly efficient, as he made 7 of his 9 attempts from the field and hit 4 of 5 from the charity stripe. Victor Valdes also contributed to the scoreline, finishing with nine points by sinking 3 of 5 shots, including a pair of successful three-point attempts.
For the Ragin’ Cajuns (8-18, 5-8), the leading scorer was Mostapha El Moutaouakkil, who matched Dowd and Rigsby’s scoring output with his own tally of 19 points. Jeremiah Evans provided additional support with 10 points, while Kentrell Garnett chipped in with nine points of his own.
Both teams are set to take the court again on Saturday as Troy heads to take on Arkansas State, while Louisiana will face off against Marshall at home.
