The Milwaukee Brewers have bolstered their pitching rotation by signing left-hander Tyler Alexander to a one-year deal worth $1 million. The announcement was made on Wednesday, marking a strategic move for the team as it prepares for the upcoming season.
In addition to his base salary, Alexander has the opportunity to earn up to an additional $1 million through performance bonuses tied to his innings pitched. Specifically, he can receive $50,000 for reaching 40 innings, $100,000 for 60 innings, and further increments of $125,000 for 80 innings, $150,000 for 90 innings, $175,000 for 100 innings, and $200,000 for each of the milestones at 110 and 120 innings.
Last season, Alexander played for the Tampa Bay Rays, where he posted a record of 6 wins and 4 losses alongside a 5.10 ERA across 23 games. During this stint, he accumulated 90 strikeouts and 24 walks over 107 and two-thirds innings pitched. His performance included 9 starts, where he went 1-2 with a 4.41 ERA, alongside 14 relief appearances that saw him finish with a 5-10 record and a 5.81 ERA. Notably, he pitched at least three innings in all but one of his relief outings and exceeded four innings in 11 of those games.
Alexander became a free agent in November after the Rays chose not to extend him a contract for 2025. He was originally drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the second round of the 2015 amateur draft. Over the course of his six seasons in the majors with both the Tigers (2019-23) and the Rays (2024), he has compiled a career record of 17 wins and 28 losses, along with an ERA of 4.55 over 143 appearances.
In a related move, the Brewers placed left-handed pitcher Robert Gasser on the 60-day injured list as he continues his recovery from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent on June 24.
