NEW YORK — John Malone, a prominent media mogul often referred to as “The Cable Cowboy,” is set to release his memoir titled “Born to Be Wired” on September 2.
In a statement provided by Simon & Schuster, Malone, who will celebrate his 84th birthday next month, emphasized the importance of relationships in his business journey. He remarked, “Over a lifetime of business deals, the most valuable currency has been relationships. This book is about the people who changed my thinking, the hard-won lessons that nearly broke me, and strategies that helped me navigate chaos and carve my own path to success.”
Malone has had a colorful career, from pioneering efforts to bring cable television to American households to chairing Liberty Media, a diverse empire that has included companies like Sirius XM Radio Inc, Formula One, Live Nation, Discovery Channel, and QVC. He is also recognized as one of the largest landowners in the U.S. and has played a significant role in companies like Warner Bros. Discovery.
The memoir is notable as it marks the first time Malone narrates his journey in his own words, despite the impact his innovations have had on millions through technological advances and media content.
In “Born to Be Wired,” Malone pays tribute to influential figures he has encountered throughout his career, such as Rupert Murdoch of News Corp, Ted Turner of CNN, Barry Diller of IAC, Reed Hastings of Netflix, and Mark Zuckerberg of Meta, highlighting the connections that have shaped his path.
