BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — In a thrilling matchup on Tuesday night, Shereef Mitchell led Ohio to an 86-81 victory over Bowling Green with an impressive performance, scoring 17 points.
Mitchell’s shooting was remarkable, as he made 4 out of 5 attempts from the field, including 3 of 4 from beyond the arc, and was perfect at the free-throw line, sinking all 6 attempts. The Bobcats now hold a record of 13-11 overall and 7-4 in the Mid-American Conference.
AJ Brown also put forth a solid effort, contributing 16 points with 4 for 8 shooting from the field, albeit 1 of 5 from three-point range, and he secured 7 out of 8 from the free-throw line while grabbing five rebounds. Meanwhile, AJ Clayton added 15 points but had a tougher shooting night, making 4 of 13 shots and missing all seven attempts from long range, though he did convert 7 of 8 from the free-throw line.
For Bowling Green, Marcus Johnson was the standout scorer with 21 points alongside five assists. Derrick Butler supported with 18 points, while Javontae Campbell chipped in with 13 points, complementing his scoring with two steals.
The first half was tightly contested, with Mitchell scoring 10 points; however, Ohio found themselves down 34-32 at the break. The Bobcats surged in the second half, starting with an 8-0 run that allowed them to grab a 56-54 lead with 9:21 left to play. Jackson Paveletzke sparked the second half for Ohio, contributing 14 points.
Looking ahead, Ohio will travel to face Kent State on Friday, while Bowling Green is set to visit Buffalo on Saturday.
