Paris Saint-Germain’s forward Ousmane Dembélé is currently demonstrating exceptional scoring ability, breaking through previous hurdles that once hindered his goal-scoring efforts.
Dembélé is experiencing a remarkable season, accumulating goals at a pace that has quieted critics who have highlighted his past struggles with finishing.
In PSG’s recent 3-0 triumph over Brest in the first leg of their Champions League playoff, he elevated his total to an impressive 23 goals for the season. This achievement surpasses his prior record of 14 goals, accomplished during his time at Barcelona in the 2018-19 season.
“The team is in a good rhythm. Everyone is focused and performing well, and that really assists me in finding the net when I’m in the right places,” Dembélé explained. “The players like Bradley Barcola, Désiré Doué, or Kvara (Khvicha Kvaratskhelia) provide fantastic support.”
While Dembélé downplays his massive contribution, he is undeniably becoming PSG’s pivotal figure, having netted in 10 consecutive matches since Kylian Mbappé’s transfer to Real Madrid this offseason. “We are thrilled with his performance,” stated teammate Vitinha. “We hope he continues this way for a long time. It’s a huge boost for the team.”
Dembélé’s initial goal came just before halftime, as he maneuvered a pass from Achraf Hakimi, sped down the right flank, and curled a shot around a retreating defense into the side netting.
Earlier in the game, his attempt resulted in PSG’s opening goal in the 21st minute. Following a handball by midfielder Pierre Lees-Melou on Dembélé’s shot, Vitinha successfully converted the penalty kick.
The 27-year-old displayed his acute instinct for scoring during his second goal, seizing on a loose ball in the penalty area and expertly placing a shot into the left corner.
This season, the France international has achieved two hat tricks, including one in a recent 5-2 league win against Brest. Of his total Champions League goals, six have come from various angles: four from his right foot and two from his left.
PSG’s coach Luis Enrique remarked that he sees no limits on Dembélé’s potential as a scorer. “Those of us who understand Ousmane and witness his training can see that he is brimming with confidence right now,” Enrique mentioned. “He was performing well in 2024, and he’s even further along in 2025. It’s a pleasure to have so many players radiating confidence.”
