Thousands of Manchester United supporters congregated at Old Trafford on Tuesday to honor the legendary Denis Law as preparations were made for his funeral.
Law, who passed away last month at the age of 84, remains the only Scottish player to have ever won the prestigious Ballon d’Or.
Notable figures such as former United manager Alex Ferguson and current head coach Ruben Amorim joined the crowds of mourners at Manchester Cathedral for the service.
Prior to the funeral, a procession began amidst rainy weather at Old Trafford, where fans lined the concourse to pay tribute to Law.
Throughout his illustrious career with United, Law made 404 appearances, netting an impressive 237 goals, a record surpassed only by Bobby Charlton and Wayne Rooney.
The procession wound its way around the stadium, with participants receiving applause from the gathered crowd, and made a stop at the Trinity Statue.
This statue commemorates the trio of Law, Charlton, and George Best, the famed attacking partnership that propelled United to league victories in 1965 and 1967, along with a historic European Cup win in 1968.
The lead vehicle in the procession displayed a Scottish flag in its rear window.
In respect for Law, flags at Old Trafford flew at half-mast.
As Law’s coffin was brought into the cathedral, a lone piper played “Flower of Scotland,” the national anthem of Scotland.
Among those present were United’s captain Bruno Fernandes, alongside former club legends like Bryan Robson, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Peter Schmeichel, and Gary Neville, as well as Scottish and Liverpool icon Kenny Dalglish.
Denis Law shares an impressive record of 30 goals for Scotland with Dalglish, although Law reached this milestone in just 55 international matches, while Dalglish needed 102 appearances.
