CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — Authorities have charged two individuals in connection with the stabbing death of a soldier from Fort Campbell, who was found with nearly 70 stab wounds last year. The clues in the investigation lead to Sofia Rodas, 35, who faces charges of first-degree murder and evidence tampering regarding the death of U.S. Army Private First Class Katia Duen?as Aguilar, 23. This tragic incident occurred in May, when Aguilar’s body was discovered at her residence in Clarksville, Tennessee.
Reynaldo Salinas Cruz, Aguilar’s spouse, has been charged specifically with tampering with evidence related to her death. Both Salinas Cruz, aged 40, and Rodas were previously held on unrelated federal charges before being extradited to Clarksville on Friday, according to police statements. Their legal representatives in these federal matters have not responded to inquiries as of Saturday.
Further information surrounding the nature of the charges has not been disclosed at this time.
Katia Duen?as Aguilar, originally from Mesquite, Texas, joined the Army in 2018 and was stationed at Fort Campbell a year later. She served with the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, part of the renowned 101st Airborne Division. An autopsy conducted by the Montgomery County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed that Aguilar sustained 68 stab wounds concentrated in her neck and upper body. The medical examiner later classified her death as a homicide due to sharp-force injuries inflicted to her neck.
