ROME – Over the weekend, a significant disruption to Sony’s PlayStation Network (PSN) affected tens of thousands of gamers, leaving them unable to access a variety of online functionalities, including stores and multimedia applications.
PlayStation acknowledged the situation through social media channels, stating, “We are aware some users might be currently experiencing issues with PSN,” which echoed the increasing number of complaints from gamers worldwide.
Concern among gamers escalated as reports of connectivity problems began to circulate rapidly on social media platforms, with many expressing their dissatisfaction due to error notifications and difficulties logging in.
A user from London, identified as Ramos, took to X, previously known as Twitter, to voice his frustration, commenting, “PSN down on a Friday night is criminal.”
The outage tracking service, Downdetector, indicated that reports regarding PSN issues began pouring in late Friday evening. In a prompt response, Sony acknowledged the growing concerns but did not elaborate on the underlying reasons for the service disruption.
Furthermore, the Sony website confirmed there were complications with various PlayStation Network services. Specifically, the PlayStation support page indicated that “some services are experiencing issues,” which affected several areas including account management, gaming and social features, as well as PlayStation Video, PlayStation Store, and PlayStation Direct.
It’s worth noting that a similar scenario unfolded last October, when the PlayStation Network faced an interruption that lasted for several hours.
