PHILADELPHIA — Federal authorities are set to probe a recent train fire in Philadelphia, which resulted in the successful evacuation of over 300 passengers.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) declared on Friday that it will be examining the incident that occurred around 6 p.m. on a Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) train operating on the Wilmington/Newark Line.

Reports suggest that the fire ignited underneath the first car of the six-car train, rapidly spreading and engulfing that particular carriage. However, SEPTA crews acted promptly and ensured that all passengers were evacuated without incident.

Approximately 325 individuals on board were later provided with shuttle buses to complete their journey, reaching all planned stops without any reported injuries.

As of Friday, the investigation into the fire’s origin is still ongoing.
