JJ Redick suggests Luka Doncic’s Lakers debut on Monday appears increasingly probable.

LOS ANGELES — Luka Doncic is anticipated to make his debut with the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday night in a match against the Utah Jazz, according to coach JJ Redick.

Doncic has been sidelined since Christmas due to a left calf strain. Initially, Redick had hinted that Doncic might make his return on Saturday against Indiana, but he later adjusted his outlook prior to the Lakers’ game against the Golden State Warriors on Thursday.

“Most likely, he will be ready for Monday,” Redick stated. “While there hasn’t been any official commitment, it appears to be leaning towards Monday.”

The Lakers acquired the Slovenian star in a significant trade with Dallas last weekend, which involved sending Anthony Davis to the Mavericks. Doncic participated in a five-on-five “stay-ready” game with his teammates and coaching staff on Wednesday, with Redick confirming that Doncic has not faced any hindrances in his recovery process.

“All is progressing well. The atmosphere is positive,” Redick noted. “We hope to hear good news in the coming days that he will be back on the court. Everyone is eager to see him play in a Lakers jersey.”

Just four days after bringing Doncic onboard, the Lakers further altered their roster by trading for 7-foot-2 center Mark Williams from Charlotte, in exchange for rookie Dalton Knecht and Cam Reddick.

As of Thursday night, the league had yet to officially sanction this trade, which prevented Redick from discussing Williams’ potential influence on the newly transformed Lakers roster. The priority remains on establishing a solid foundation with Doncic, whenever he is ready to return.

“Our goal is to build his confidence,” Redick emphasized. “We also want our medical team to feel certain about his readiness. We’re not in a rush. The fans, players, and coaching staff are all excited, but we understand that it will take more than just a quick fix to gel. Once he is healthy and back on the team, we will have work ahead of us, which will be an exciting challenge.”
