Oklahoma City has made significant moves regarding its roster by officially signing rookie Ajay Mitchell, a second-round draft pick, to a multi-year deal and extending a two-way contract to Branden Carlson. This announcement came on Thursday.
Mitchell, who hails from Belgium and played college basketball at UC-Santa Barbara, initially signed a two-way contract in July of last year. The specific details concerning his new contract have not been disclosed. Over the course of this season, Mitchell has participated in 34 games, where he is averaging 6.4 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. Notably, he is among a select list of rookies this year, being one of only two in the league to maintain shooting percentages of at least 50% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc. However, he has been sidelined for the past month due to a toe injury.
The Oklahoma City Thunder secured Mitchell’s rights on draft night after acquiring them from the New York Knicks. He was selected as the 38th overall pick during the draft.
Branden Carlson, standing at 7 feet tall, has participated in 15 games for the Thunder this season since being signed in November. In a recent match against Cleveland, he showcased his abilities by scoring a personal best of 11 points along with four rebounds. Currently, Carlson’s statistics reflect an average of 3.1 points and 1.7 rebounds in just 6.3 minutes per game.
Additionally, while playing five games for Oklahoma City’s G League affiliate, Carlson has performed impressively, recording averages of 15.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks during his time on the court.
