LAS PALMAS, Spain — Kirian Rodríguez, the midfielder for Las Palmas, is set to take another six-month hiatus from football to address a recurring cancer diagnosis.
Two years ago, Rodríguez underwent chemotherapy for Hodgkin lymphoma, a battle that temporarily kept him off the field for a half-year. Unfortunately, doctors have informed him that the cancer has returned and he will require further treatment.
“I’m facing the disease once again and need to pause to combat it,” he stated. “I look forward to rejoining the team for the 2025-26 season.”
The 28-year-old expressed disappointment regarding the premature media coverage of his health situation, revealing that the news went public before he had the chance to discuss it himself.
This season, Rodríguez has made significant contributions to his team, playing in over 20 matches as Las Palmas currently sits at 15th position in La Liga.
The club and fans alike are hoping for his swift recovery as they continue their campaign in the league.
