SEATTLE — Brice Williams contributed 23 points and Juwan Gray added 17 as Nebraska made a remarkable comeback in the second half, defeating Washington with a score of 86-72 on Wednesday evening.
Reserve player Connor Essegian also played a significant role, scoring 16 points for Nebraska (15-8, 5-7 Big Ten), which showcased impressive shooting, making 52.7% of its attempts (29 of 55).
For the Huskies, Mekhi Mason led the charge with 23 points, while Great Osobor supported with 17. Tyler Harris not only scored 14 points but also pulled down 11 rebounds, and Zoom Diallo contributed 10 points to the effort.
Washington (11-11, 2-9) started strong, making its first seven shots from beyond the arc within the first seven and a half minutes of the game. However, the team struggled afterward, hitting only 3 of 18 from three-point range for the remainder of the game. This fiery start allowed the Huskies to establish a 31-18 lead in just under ten minutes, and they maintained a 47-37 advantage at halftime.
In the second half, Nebraska shifted the momentum, launching a 15-2 scoring surge that granted them a 52-49 lead, capped off by Williams’ three-pointer with 15:06 remaining. This marked Nebraska’s first lead since initially going ahead 3-2 early in the game.
Mason’s three-pointer briefly gave Washington its last lead at 57-56, but Williams then responded with a three of his own, allowing Nebraska to take control for the remainder of the matchup. In a striking turn of performance, the Cornhuskers outscored the Huskies 49-25 in the second half.
Looking ahead, Nebraska will host Ohio State on Sunday, while Washington will face Northwestern at home on Saturday.
