In a competitive matchup on Wednesday night, the Georgia Bulldogs secured a decisive victory against the LSU Tigers, with a final score of 81-62. Freshman Asa Newell made significant contributions to the team’s success, scoring 17 points. Blue Cain also had a productive night, recording a double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists.
Newell electrified the crowd with a powerful dunk that pushed Georgia’s lead to 76-59. Shortly after, Silas Demary Jr. intercepted an inbounds pass, paving the way for Newell to complete a three-point play, extending the lead to a commanding 20 points with just over two minutes remaining in the game.
With this victory, Georgia improved its record to 16-7, including an impressive 13-1 performance on home turf this season. RJ Godfrey and De’Shayne Montgomery each contributed 12 points to the dominant win. Demary added eight points along with six rebounds, five assists, and three steals to round out his performance.
On the other side of the court, Jordan Sears led LSU with 11 points, while Daimion Collins and Cam Carter contributed 10 points each. The Tigers made an early splash with their shooting, hitting their first nine field goals from beyond the arc, with contributions coming from six different players in the initial 13 minutes. Although they started strong, making nine of their first 15 three-point attempts, their shooting cooled down significantly as they missed their next seven attempts in the half. LSU finally found the basket inside the arc with a layup from Mike Williams III, closing the gap to 35-29 just two minutes before halftime.
LSU, known for its three-point shooting, managed to hit its eighth three-pointer of the game with 9:33 left in the first half. Ultimately, they ended the game with 12 successes from beyond the arc out of 33 attempts, while only sinking nine two-point shots from 25 tries.
Looking ahead, both teams are set to face ranked opponents this Saturday. LSU will be at home to take on No. 25 Mississippi, while Georgia remains at home to challenge the No. 22 Mississippi State.
