The Washington Wizards have reached an agreement to trade center Jonas Valanciunas to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for player Sidy Cissoko, along with second-round draft picks for the years 2028 and 2029.
The Wizards made the trade announcement on Wednesday evening.
Recently, the Kings acquired the 6-foot-6 Cissoko from the San Antonio Spurs as part of a three-way deal that also involved De’Aaron Fox moving to the Spurs while Zach LaVine headed from Chicago to Sacramento. Cissoko will now be joining a young Wizards team that is currently struggling with the lowest record in the league.
Valanciunas, 32, has been averaging 11.5 points and 8.2 rebounds this season, although he has been playing a career-low of just 20.1 minutes per game.
In addition to the Valanciunas trade, the Wizards are also parting ways with Kyle Kuzma and Patrick Baldwin, sending them to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Khris Middleton and A.J. Johnson, according to an insider familiar with the transaction.
Despite their struggles with an 8-41 record, the Wizards had managed to secure two consecutive wins prior to their matchup against Brooklyn on Wednesday night. The additions of Cissoko and Johnson, both 20 years old, further bolster the team’s youth movement alongside other young talents including Bub Carrington (19), Bilal Coulibaly (20), Alex Sarr (19), Kyshawn George (21), and Tristan Vukcevic (21).
Cissoko was selected in the second round of the 2023 NBA Draft by the Spurs and has participated in 17 games this season, averaging 3.2 minutes per game.
