Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania — Pittsburgh Penguins’ captain, Sidney Crosby, is currently undergoing evaluation for an upper-body injury.

Crosby missed practice on Wednesday, following an incident that occurred during the third period of Tuesday’s game against the New Jersey Devils, which ended in a 3-2 shootout loss for the Penguins.

During the game, Crosby was caught in a collision with New Jersey players Luke Hughes and Erik Haula, leading to him missing several shifts. After the collision, he was seen favoring his left arm or hand as he skated to the bench but returned to the ice after a check-up in the locker room.

Despite the injury, Crosby played during the conclusion of regulation and overtime and was also part of the shootout. When asked about the incident post-game, Crosby mentioned he simply got “tangled up” but refrained from providing more details.

Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan was cautious in his statements and did not speculate on any potential absence for Crosby, emphasizing the need to avoid jumping to conclusions regarding the captain’s availability.

The Penguins are set to face the New York Rangers on Friday, followed by a matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, before the team takes a pause for the 4 Nations Faceoff.

Crosby, now 37 years old, is expected to captain Team Canada in this upcoming tournament, which will see Canadian players begin competition against Sweden on February 12 in Montreal.
