NYON, Switzerland — On Wednesday, UEFA announced that AS Roma will have to close a significant portion of the Stadio Olimpico for their upcoming Europa League playoff match due to incidents involving crowd disturbances.

The decision comes after Roma was found responsible for various fan-related issues during their recent match, where they secured a 2-0 victory against Eintracht Frankfurt in the final round of the league-phase.

As a result, two sections of the northern end of their stadium will be unavailable when FC Porto visits on February 20 for the second leg of the knockout playoff round. The outcome of this match will determine which team progresses to the round of 16.

In addition, UEFA has levied a fine of 30,000 euros (approximately $31,250) against AS Roma for their role in the disturbances.

Conversely, Eintracht Frankfurt faced a fine of 25,000 euros (around $26,000) due to problems with their supporters at the match in Rome. Furthermore, the German team has received a temporary ban on selling tickets for an away match, which will last for one game during a two-year probation period.

Notably, Eintracht Frankfurt, the reigning Europa League champion from 2022, has already secured their place directly in the round of 16.

In another related disciplinary action, UEFA has imposed a fine of 35,000 euros (about $36,500) on FC Twente and mandated the closure of one end of their venue for their first-leg Europa League playoff meeting against Bodo/Glimt on February 13.
