Towns scores 27 and grabs 20 boards as Knicks clinch eighth consecutive victory against Raptors, 121-115

TORONTO — The New York Knicks triumphed over the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday night, securing a 121-115 victory thanks in part to the impressive performances of Karl-Anthony Towns and Jalen Brunson. Towns dominated the court with 27 points and an incredible 20 rebounds, while Brunson contributed significantly with 28 points. This win marked the Knicks’ eighth victory in their last ten games, showcasing their solid form.

Mikal Bridges and Precious Achiuwa each chipped in with 17 points, helping the Knicks extend their winning streak against the Raptors to eight games. Additionally, Josh Hart added 15 points, and all five starters for the Knicks reached double figures, indicating a well-rounded team effort. Towns was particularly effective on the boards, gathering nearly half of the team’s total rebounds, which was a crucial factor in the game. This season, he has already recorded two games with 22 rebounds, and he previously set a career-high of 27 rebounds versus New Orleans on January 12, 2019.

On the Raptors’ side, Scottie Barnes led with 23 points, while Jamal Shead had a personal best of 16 points. The team faced challenges with injuries; they were without leading scorer RJ Barrett, who is currently in concussion protocol, and they also lost center Jakob Poeltl to a right hip injury at halftime. Poeltl managed to score five points and grab two rebounds before his early exit.

A notable highlight for the Knicks was OG Anunoby’s absence in this matchup against his former team, due to a sprained right foot that kept him sidelined for the second consecutive game. In contrast, Barrett had practiced on Monday after a hard fall in a prior game but began to show symptoms later that evening.

A pivotal moment in the game came when the Raptors, after trailing by as much as 23 points, managed to narrow the gap to just one point at 112-111 with 3:17 remaining in the fourth quarter. However, Brunson’s crucial pull-up three-pointer with just 26 seconds left helped secure the win for the Knicks.

In a key statistic from the game, Towns not only excelled with his scoring and rebounding but also achieved 20 points and 15 rebounds in the first half alone. Comparatively, the entire Raptors team struggled to match his rebounding prowess, collectively managing just 12 rebounds during those first two quarters.

Looking ahead, the Raptors will host the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night, while the Knicks will return home to face the Boston Celtics on Saturday night.
