The New York Islanders have officially placed Mathew Barzal on injured reserve due to a lower body injury, as announced on Tuesday.
Barzal previously faced a setback this season, spending 21 days out with an upper body issue. His current injury occurred during the third period of the Islanders’ recent overtime victory against Tampa Bay. He exited the contest in the closing moments of regulation after taking a hard shot from Lightning player Darren Raddysh that impacted his left leg.

This season, Barzal has recorded six goals and 14 assists across 30 games.
The Islanders are currently positioned in 11th place within the Eastern Conference standings, trailing by four points from a potential wild-card entry.
