Siakam’s clutch performance propels Indiana to a 112-111 victory against Utah

SALT LAKE CITY — Pascal Siakam made a significant impact in the final quarter, netting 10 of his 22 points, which propelled the Indiana Pacers to a narrow victory of 112-111 over the Utah Jazz on Monday night. This victory marks the Pacers’ fourth consecutive win, showcasing their resilience and determination.

Tyrese Haliburton contributed 18 points for Indiana, who played without Myles Turner after he was a late scratch due to an ankle issue. Other noteworthy performances included Obi Toppin and Aaron Nesmith, both scoring 13 points to help secure the win.

For the Jazz, John Collins and Jordan Clarkson each tallied 21 points. The team is struggling, having lost nine out of their last 10 games, reflecting a tough season thus far with a record of 11-37. A setback occurred early on when Utah guard Collin Sexton sprained his left ankle and was unable to return. However, Isaiah Collier and Keyonte George stepped up, combining for 27 points and 21 assists, though their late-game errors revealed their lack of experience.

The Jazz appeared to be in control, leading 101-89 after Collier hit a three-pointer with 6:52 left in the game. However, as the game progressed, they were outscored 23-10, with the Pacers intensifying their efforts in the crucial moments.

In terms of key points, Indiana had maintained a scoring average of over 130 points in their previous three games, but their shooting from beyond the arc dwindled to just 23.8% in this matchup. Consequently, they adapted their strategy by focusing on inside plays and quick transitions.

The Jazz faced issues in the closing moments, with costly mistakes creeping into their play. After Collins put Utah ahead 106-105, they struggled, committing two turnovers and missing two difficult shots. Additionally, Lauri Markkanen missed two crucial free throws with only 17 seconds left on the clock.

A defining moment in the game came when Andrew Nembhard assisted Siakam for an open dunk with just 5.1 seconds remaining, giving the Pacers a crucial 112-108 lead as they pressed down the stretch.

In terms of statistics, the Jazz dominated the boards, grabbing 60 rebounds compared to the Pacers’ 37. However, Indiana capitalized on Utah’s 19 turnovers, converting them into 26 fast-break points, significantly aiding their comeback effort.

Looking ahead, the Pacers are scheduled to face the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday night, while the Jazz will complete their four-game homestand against the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday.
