UFC fighter Bryce Mitchell has clarified his recent remarks on a podcast that garnered significant backlash, stating, “I’m definitely not a Nazi.” This response comes in light of his previous antisemitic comments, where he also praised Adolf Hitler and expressed Holocaust denial, alongside making homophobic statements.
Mitchell took to Instagram on Saturday to address the controversy, expressing regret for how he had come across. “I’m sorry I sounded insensitive,” he wrote, acknowledging the offense caused by his words. He emphasized the historical reality of the Holocaust, stating, “I know that a lot of people died in the Holocaust, and that’s a fact.” He further condemned Hitler’s actions, admitting, “Hitler did a lot of evil things, I think we can all agree on that.” Mitchell firmly distanced himself from Nazism, stating unequivocally, “I’m definitely not a Nazi, and definitely do not condone any of the evil things Hitler did.”
UFC’s President Dana White weighed in, labeling Mitchell’s comments as “dumb and ignorant.” White confirmed that the organization had communicated to Mitchell that his remarks were unacceptable. However, he clarified that no disciplinary measures would be taken against Mitchell, citing his right to freedom of expression.
In his Instagram message, Mitchell made a commitment to approach his future discussions with greater thoughtfulness and care. He has acknowledged the weight of the current situation and aims to be more considerate moving forward.
