NEW ORLEANS — NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell expressed that he does not view the league’s initiatives aimed at enhancing diversity as being at odds with the Trump administration’s attempts to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion programs from the federal sector.

The NFL has established rules that mandate teams to consider candidates from diverse backgrounds when filling important coaching and management roles, a policy known as the Rooney Rule, which has been active for over 20 years.

Notably, a number of NFL franchise owners have made financial contributions to Donald Trump’s political campaign or endorsed conservative movements in the lead-up to the 2024 election.

“Our owners are involved in all aspects of our organization,” Goodell remarked on Monday. “Our policies are crafted to remain within legal boundaries and adhere to best practices. We do not impose any quotas; our aim is to broaden our reach and attract the best talent available in the NFL.”

He also emphasized that the league believes their actions align with both the current and previous administration, highlighting a commitment to their initiatives.
