NASHVILLE, Tenn.
— In a thrilling matchup on Sunday, Evansville triumphed over Belmont with a final score of 80-75, thanks in large part to Gabriel Pozzato’s outstanding performance, where he netted 22 points.
Pozzato was efficient on the court, hitting 6 of his 11 attempts, including one out of five from beyond the arc, and made an impressive 9 of 10 free throws, contributing significantly to the Purple Aces’ record of 9-14 overall and 6-6 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Alongside him, Tayshawn Comer put forth a commendable effort, adding 19 points along with five rebounds and six assists to the team’s scoreline. Connor Turnbull also showcased his skills, concluding the game with 14 points after shooting 6 for 11 from the field, while contributing six rebounds and three blocks defensively.
On the opposing side, Belmont (15-8, 7-5) had Jonathan Pierre leading the charge with 19 points. Sam Orme provided solid support, adding 15 points for the Bruins, while Isaiah Walker chipped in with 10 points, as well as seven rebounds and two steals.
During the first half, Pozzato was able to contribute nine points, but the team found themselves narrowly trailing at halftime with a score of 38-37.
In a dynamic second half, Pozzato further elevated his game, scoring 13 additional points and helping Evansville clinch victory in a fiercely competitive round that saw nine lead changes and ties on nine occasions.
