MADRID — Real Madrid’s central defender Antonio Rüdiger has been diagnosed with an injury to his leg muscles that he incurred during a Spanish league match on Saturday.
The club announced on Sunday that Rüdiger is suffering from a strain in the biceps femoris of his right leg.
The 31-year-old German international had to leave the pitch in the 15th minute during Madrid’s narrow 1-0 defeat against Espanyol.
While the club has not confirmed a specific timeline for his recovery, reports from Spanish media suggest that Rüdiger may be sidelined for approximately two to three weeks.
Upcoming fixtures for Madrid include a Copa del Rey quarterfinal match against Leganes on Wednesday, followed by a league game against rivals Atletico Madrid on Saturday, and a crucial Champions League playoff clash against Manchester City on February 11.
As it stands, Real Madrid sits just one point ahead of Atletico in the Spanish league standings.
