Canter Secures Bahrain Championship Title Following Playoff Against Larrazabal and Brown

AL MAZROWIAH, Bahrain — English golfer Laurie Canter secured his second title on the European tour after triumphing in a thrilling playoff against Pablo Larrazabal and Daniel Brown at the Bahrain Championship on Sunday.

Ranked No. 89, Canter found his winning moment by making a birdie on the 18th hole—the first of the playoff—while both competitors, Larrazabal and Brown, failed to reach par.

Canter has made a notable return to the European tour after a stint with the LIV Golf series and previously claimed the title at the European Open in June of last year.

The outcome was especially disappointing for Spanish golfer Larrazabal, who is ranked No. 311 and was vying for his 10th title on the European tour. At the 72nd hole, he had a chance to win by a shot but faltered when he couldn’t convert his 35-foot putt, leaving it six feet short and subsequently missing his par attempt, which led him into the playoff.

In the final round, Canter posted a score of 69, while both Larrazabal and Brown finished with rounds of 70. The three competitors concluded the tournament at 14-under par, just one stroke ahead of David Puig (64), Richie Ramsay (68), Ivan Cantero (69), and Martin Couvra (70).
