DALLAS — On Saturday night, Samet Yigitoglu led the SMU Mustangs to an impressive 85-61 triumph over Stanford. Yigitoglu netted 17 points while Boopie Miller contributed 10 points and recorded a season-high with 10 assists. The team has demonstrated strong performances lately, securing victories in six of their last seven games, and had additional notable contributions from Matt Cross and Kario Oquendo, who each scored 16 points. Chuck Harris also excelled with his shooting, sinking four 3-pointers to finish the game with 14 points.

The Mustangs showcased a dominant offensive display, shooting 53% from the field, successfully making 31 out of 58 attempts, and hitting 12 of 24 from beyond the arc. Their high-energy play included seven spectacular dunks, highlighted by consecutive slams from Yigitoglu and Oquendo, which electrified the crowd with about 13 minutes left in the game.

For Stanford, Oziyah Sellers put up a commendable 19 points, and Maxime Raynaud added 18 points along with 10 rebounds. Despite the efforts, the Cardinal, who entered the game riding a four-game winning streak, struggled to keep pace with the Mustangs.

Early in the first half, Yigitoglu’s back-to-back dunks propelled SMU to a commanding 29-11 lead. The Mustangs maintained control, scoring another five points to extend their advantage to 45-25 by halftime. Cross was a key contributor in the opening period with three 3-pointers and 15 points, alongside Yigitoglu and Oquendo, who both added 12 points.

Raynaud led the Cardinal’s scoring efforts with 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting, but the rest of the team struggled heavily, hitting only 4 of 20 attempts in the first half. Although Sellers connected on a 3-pointer early in the second half, inching Stanford closer at 55-37, they were unable to mount a significant comeback.

Looking ahead, Stanford will face Wake Forest on Wednesday, while SMU will travel to play against Virginia Tech.
