SAN ANTONIO — Victor Wembanyama missed the San Antonio Spurs’ game on Saturday evening against the Miami Heat due to an unspecified illness.
Having recently earned a spot in the All-Star Game as a reserve for the Western Conference, Wembanyama was officially ruled out just 40 minutes before the game commenced, marking his sixth absence of the season.
Wembanyama displayed signs of illness during his post-game press briefing on Friday, where he spoke after a convincing 144-116 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks.
When inquired about his health condition, Wembanyama attributed his symptoms to allergies, saying, “Since we came back from France, allergy has been hitting more than ever. Makes sense, but just since we came back, though, so it’s getting better.”
The 7-foot-3 center from France has been dealing with allergy issues since his arrival in San Antonio, where he was selected as the first overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft.
In the recent match against the Bucks, he delivered an impressive performance, scoring 30 points, grabbing 14 rebounds, and blocking six shots, leading the Spurs to their highest scoring game of the season.
Wembanyama’s season averages stand at 24.6 points, 10.9 rebounds, 3.9 blocks, and 3.7 assists across 40 games thus far.
