Nelson nets 23 points as Arkansas State defeats Texas State 85-74

SAN MARCOS, Texas — In a dynamic performance, Izaiyah Nelson secured 23 points, guiding Arkansas State to an 85-74 victory over Texas State on Saturday night.

Nelson also notched 11 rebounds, contributing significantly to the Red Wolves’ (18-5, 9-2 Sun Belt Conference) success. Terrance Ford Jr. supported the effort with 20 points, showing accuracy by making 6 out of 12 attempts from the field, including 2 from 4 beyond the arc, along with 6 successful free throws and five assists. Kobe Julien added to the scoring with 19 points, hitting 6 of 13 shots, 3 of 5 from three-point territory, and making 4 of 6 attempts at the charity stripe. This victory marks the seventh consecutive win for Arkansas State.

On the other side, Tylan Pope led the scoring for the Bobcats (12-11, 5-6) with 17 points. Dylan Dawson contributed well, scoring 15 points and facilitating six assists for Texas State. Kaden Gumbs also made his presence felt with 12 points, alongside four assists, three steals, and two blocks.

Looking ahead, both teams are set to compete again on Wednesday. Arkansas State will face off against Marshall, while Texas State is set to visit Old Dominion.
